Getting Your Application Noticed

 

Every student has specific, unique talents and strengths that will need to be communicated to the college. The application process is the tool they use to identify each students unique qualities and the talents you will bring to the college and the college community as a whole. After determining your strengths a marketing program should be implemented to best communicate these talents. The only limit to marketing your strengths is your imagination and energy.

 

What Should Your Application Communicate?

Admissions Officers review thousands of applications. Being accepted to a particular school may be important to you, but to Admissions Officers it a tedious, at best, task. Therefore, you should put yourself in their shoes and help them make it easier to identify you form the rest of the pack.  Your application should communicate the following:

1) You are well rounded individual

2) You have leadership capabilities

3) You are organized

4) You are confident and mature

5) You have the capability of assuming additional responsibilities

6) Shows you have a game plan and are motivated to achieve your goals

7) You have the qualities the school is looking for

8) YOU DESERVE ACCEPTANCE!

What You Can Do To Stand Out

Hear are a number of marketing strategies that have worked for applicants to top colleges:

  • A copy of an award or citation received in your senior year.

  • A newspaper article about your achievement

  • A particular striking word of praise written by a teacher about a paper of project

  • A prize story that has appeared since you submitted your application-drawing, photo or art exhibit, etc.

  • A paper of project of exceptional merit

  • A model you have constructed of a building for design or architecture class.

  • A software program or presentation you have developed

  • A report of a business you have started

  • A translation prepared by you from foreign language into English or vice-versa

  • Music you have composed or a film you have produced

  • News of a conference or seminar on politics and government that you have attended.

  • Anything that shows your talent and commitment
